What makes the biggest difference to children and families? While new approaches and innovative ways of working are important, the quality of everyday conversations between practitioners, children and families remains at the heart of effective children’s social care.

As part of CASCADE’s Summer 2026 focus on Developing Excellent Practice, we’re launching #GoodCommunicationMatters, a season of research, resources and discussion exploring how communication shapes relationships, supports change and improves outcomes for children and families.

In this short video, Dr Rebecca Brown introduces the campaign and explains why good communication is a fundamental part of excellent practice. Throughout the season, we’ll be sharing blogs, research findings, practical resources and events that showcase the evidence behind effective communication and what it looks like in practice.
