This section contains resources to support practice-based learning across the Cardiff University MSc and PgDip Social Work programmes. It is intended primarily for practice educators, on-site supervisors, workforce development officers and other colleagues involved in supporting students during placement.

Portfolio Exemplars
This section contains examples of both stronger and weaker portfolio submissions from Stages 1, 2 and 3. The examples are intended to illustrate the standard and quality of evidence expected throughout the placement portfolio, including contributions from students, Practice Educators and On-Site Supervisors.
The materials are provided to support learning, supervision and assessment by demonstrating how portfolio evidence can be presented, linked to the National Occupational Standards and supported through reflective commentary and professional feedback. They should be used as guides rather than templates to be replicated.

Managing Placement Concerns
Concerns meetings are intended to support students where there are significant concerns about their progress, conduct, professional behaviour or suitability for practice. If you are considering a concerns meeting, please contact the student’s tutor and local authority training officer for advice at the earliest opportunity.
The templates below can be used to record concerns meetings and review concerns meetings.
